Part 1: Lecture (1 Hour) Title: Motion Capture for Live Performance - A Case Study with Lu Yang

Description: This talk will introduce the applications of motion capture for live performance through a case study of Lu Yang, an artist based in Shanghai and Tokyo. MetaObjects, a studio facilitating digital production with artists and cultural institutions, has collaborated with Lu Yang since 2018 to develop a live performance connected to notions of reincarnation in the virtual realm. Over the years, the project has evolved with increasing complexity, both technically and conceptually. The latest iteration involved a networked performance with two dancers in two cities: Freespace, West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong, and the Sydney Opera House, collaborating with a shared virtual body.

Tickets: 25 available for the lecture only (5:30PM-6:30PM)

Part 2: Workshop (2 Hours) Title: Hands-On Motion Capture Workshop

Description: Following the talk, interested participants will have the option to engage in an educational workshop, diving deeper into the world of motion capture. This workshop will provide practical experience with the Rokoko smart suit, demonstrating how it integrates with game engines like Unity to create live animations and visual effects. Participants will learn about the tools and technologies used in motion capture for live performance, enhancing their digital literacy skills and understanding of iterative development in creative projects.

Tickets: 15 available for the combined lecture and workshop package (5:30PM-8:30PM)
